Frequently asked questions

  • Yes, I do!

I just have a particular love of treating fertility and reproductive health patients.

Acupuncture is also amazing at treating hormonal imbalances, thyroid disease, digestive disorders, mental health, autoimmune disorders, and seasonal allergies.

I welcome any kind of complaints and would love to work with you. I do tend to refer out for any pain complaints, this is just not my specialty!

  • Acupuncture has been studied, researched, and used for over 4,000 years. While we don’t know all of the reasons why acupuncture works, we do know that it releases endorphins, improves blood flow to areas of the body, reduces cortisol (the stress hormone), and reduces inflammation.

I have seen acupuncture optimize the body for ovulation, reduce menstrual pain, stop spotting during the middle of the cycle, regulate irregular cycles, support fertility, and help prepare the body for labor. I have seen it manage hormonal imbalances, calm digestive issues like gas, bloating, IBS, and Crohn’s disease. I have seen allergy relief.

The list goes on and on! This medicine is truly amazing and I am so excited for you to explore it with me.

  • The results of acupuncture are cumulative, which means that each treatment builds on the progress of the ones before it.

Many people feel improvement right after the first treatment, but for lasting change it’s important to come in for a series of treatments. Often times acupuncturists are working with you on your health issues that have been going on for years or decades. It takes time to unlearn those patterns, time to reorient your body. I often see that anywhere from one treatment a week for 6-10 weeks usually leaves people with lasting and concrete results.

  • We do not accept insurance, but I am happy to create Superbills for you to submit for insurance reimbursement if you have acupuncture coverage!

A Superbill is an official document detailing what was done in the treatment. I create the document and you submit it to your insurance provider. Your insurance coverage determines your reimbursement and if what we are treating is covered. I recommend checking with them first (look below for some helpful questions to ask).

I also HAPPILY accept funds from Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flex Spending Accounts (FSA). These are accounts that are tax free, can be used for health related expenses only, and are a facet of a high deductible insurance plan.

I also encourage you to consider that your health is your greatest investment. It’s an unfortunate fact, but the longer we put off caring for our health, the longer it often costs to manage in the long run. Your body is the vehicle that carries you through your life; you cannot escape it. In many ways, you can’t afford NOT to take better care of your health. Your body, and your opportunity to move through life with less concerns and stress, depends on your investing in yourself.

  • Here is what to ask your insurance company-

    1. Do they cover acupuncture treatments (CPT Codes 99203, 99213, 97810, 97811)?

    2. What complaints are covered and can they tell you the specific codes associated with those complaints (referred to as ICD-10 codes)? Some insurance companies are very specific about what you can use acupuncture to treat (like back pain), so it's good to ask.

    3. How many acupuncture visits with an acupuncturist are covered per year?

    4. Is your insurance plan per calendar year or plan year (what month does your insurance plan “restart”)?

    5. Is there a deductible that needs to be met?

    6. How would you go through the process of submitting a superbill to insurance?

Get this in writing if you can!

  • 1. Please complete your paperwork in advance! When you book your appointment, you will receive an email with a link to complete the paperwork online.

    2. Try not to come on an empty stomach, so please eat a little snack or meal.

    3. Please wear loose and comfy clothing that roll up to your elbows and knees.

    4. Come on in and get ready to relax!

  • Acupuncture needles are super thin! Most people don’t feel anything, sometimes a slight pinch, but most people fall asleep on the table or able to totally relax.

  • We are located at 770 Newtown Yardley Road, Suite #214, Newtown PA 18940. There is plenty of parking. I also share the office suite with a massage therapist, an esthetician, and a psychotherapist.

We ask that patients and clients text us when they arrive so that we can greet them at the door. Please reach out at 720-230-3225 with a text that you have arrived and I will let you into the suite!

  • Nope!

I do not expect nor accept tips. My prices are all inclusive, so don’t even worry about it. I appreciate the concern.

Furthermore, I do not charge extra for any additional modalities we may use, like cupping, moxa, or massage. I do charge only for the market price of herbs, but these are totally optional and designed to support and continue your acupuncture treatment.

  • Short answer is, yes! I can seamlessly integrate my practice with your OBGYN, midwives, doula to help round out your care and support.

I have seen acupuncture alleviate nausea, fatigue, sciatica, headaches, lower back pain, and breech presentation.

How acupuncture can help

Acupuncture is an amazing healing modality that has been practiced for over 3000 years. It can support a variety of complaints such as:

  • Fertility Support

Acupuncture has been shown to be effective in supporting any form of assisted reproductive technology (ART), IVF, IUI, medicated menstrual cycles, egg implantation, and egg retrieval.

Acupuncture has also been shown to help improve the likelihood of ovulation, increasing the amount of follicles developing in the ovary, blood flow to the ovaries and uterus, and improving endometrial lining.

  • Hormonal Health

Reproductive health is more than just trying to conceive. Acupuncture is also a treatment option for painful periods, cramping, PMS/PMDD, PCOS, endometriosis, perimenopausal and menopausal support, and coming off of hormonal birth control.

  • Pregnancy Support

Acupuncture has been shown to be safe, effective, and supportive during all of pregnancy. It can help to manage nausea, fatigue, back pain, sciatica, and other complaints. I can seamlessly integrate my acupuncture practice with your healthcare provider, like an OBGYN, midwife, and or doula.

  • Pre/Post IVF Transfer

Research has shown that patients who receive acupuncture before and after an IVF transfer are more likely to become pregnant. It has also been found that people who received acupuncture before and after the transfer were more optimistic and less anxious about the outcome.

This service is designed specifically to support you before and after the transfer.

  • Breech or Transverse babies

There is compelling research to support that acupuncture can help to turn a breech or transverse baby. It has been shown to be as effective as an ECV. Before booking an appointment with me for breech presentation, I highly recommend booking an initial consultation so we can determine if acupuncture for malposition of the fetus is appropriate for you.

  • Depression, Anxiety & Stress

Acupuncture can support emotional health as well. Acupuncture can help with symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress.

Studies have shown that acupuncture can be as effective as talk therapy and medications.

Stress is also so common these days. The days are busy, work is hard, family is hard, and things are generally overwhelming. Reducing overall stress in our lives can have such positive impacts on our entire well being.

  • Seasonal Allergies

Acupuncture can help to manage symptoms of seasonal allergies.

Runny nose, congestion, pressure in the sinuses, itchy eyes, hay fever, sneezing, coughing, and post nasal drip. Seasonal allergies often are a symptom of gut and digestive health, which is perfect for acupuncture because it can help with both!

  • Digestive Support

Acupuncture can help to support the digestive system. It can help with IBS, constipation, gas, bloating, and even skin conditions. Chinese Medicine heavily focuses on the gut in practice- everything starts here!

  • Autoimmune Disease

Acupuncture has been shown to support the immune system and ease various symptoms associated with a variety of autoimmune diseases. Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine techniques are also incredibly personalized. There are no boxes to fit in here. Which means that regardless if you match the official diagnosis of a certain autoimmune disease, it can support you and your personal experiences.

Micaela is the most thoughtful and professional acupuncturist that I’ve had the pleasure of working with. My husband and I were on a long journey of trying to conceive our second child while I was also dealing with hormonal/thyroid fluctuations due to my age (35). Her knowledge and expertise in these areas, as well as stress relief and overall health and wellness, allowed me to reset both mentally and physically. This was just what I needed as we finally were successful and I am 22 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby boy. I attribute a piece of that success to her as she was able to guide me and keep me grounded through that time. Whether it’s a simple act of self love and stress relief, or a big shift in health you’re seeking, Micaela is the person to trust.

Micaela is an amazing acupuncturist. I saw her through some of the hardest days of my life. She was compassionate and always willing to listen to what my needs were for that day/point in time. Her treatments were incredibly effective. She especially helped me with hormones and cycle issues as I went through a miscarriage and through my IVF journey. She also helped with my emotional well being and severe hip pain I experienced during the time as well. She always was supportive of my choices as I balanced western and eastern medicine throughout my time working with her. She was a huge part of my journey to becoming pregnant this year and I will forever be grateful for her and her expertise!

Micaela was meant to be a healer. I could feel her caring, compassionate energy from my first appointment. I can tell she really seeks to understand her clients - nothing about our appointments feels rushed or overlooked. I've been going for shoulder injury and am feeling much better physically as well as mentally. Acupuncture with Micaela is now a critical component of my wellness - so happy I found her!
