Scattered, Frazzled- Welcome to Spring
Anyone else feeling a little frazzled?
I see a lot of people in my clinic and I fortunately get to see a lot of patterns emerge about my clinic's population.
And, let me tell you, I am picking up on some serious scattered energy.
So, let's look at it through the lens of Chinese Medicine. This spring energy is vibrant and very much alive. It is governed by the Liver. It's a wonderful time. The flowers bloom, the sun stays around longer, and we get to be outside more.
But, I have also seen the spring bring a lot of system dysregulation. This spring seems to be the worst I have seen in my career.
One way that I love to ground back and stop the dysregulation is connecting with the energy of the Kidney.
The Kidney is the mother of the Liver. It is what feeds the expansion of energy outward. But, if it is deficient or we did not sufficiently rest over the winter, it can be pulled on too much. We see signs of burnout, anxiety, and that scattered feeling.
I connect to the Kidney all the time on the acupuncture table with acupuncture points, but the good news is you can also do it at home.
So, when you are feeling frazzled and pulled in too many directions, bring your attention to the bottom of your feet. The lowest acupuncture point on the body is in the center of the foot, right where the ball of the foot ends, smack in the center. This is Kidney 1.
I use acupressure on this point in the clinic, but even just awareness there can help to bring the excitement down.
As you are focusing on this point, breath in deeply and then slowly let the breath go. That's it. So simple.
The Kidney is deeply related to breath in Chinese Medicine. When we feel dysregulated, we can have a tendency to have shallow breath. Bringing our attention downward reconnects us to the Kidney and offers support.
